What’s next?
Play more games with your immediate family and online friends!
Here are the ones I played during the festival last week:
Play more games
The celebration may be over for 2020, but it was just a celebration of the privilege we have to reconnect with the people that mean the most to us.
It means you should extend the magic of the SpielMas festival and play more games through the dark days of Winter and into the oncoming Spring as more of us become vaccinated for COVID-19.
By Summer, we may begin to at least gather outside in the warmth of an afternoon to play tabletop games with friends, masked and distanced, of course.
And perhaps by next Fall we will be able to attend all the holiday celebrations and festivals we missed in 2020.
And beyond?
I expect the rollout of vaccines to be difficult and slow, and for all we know it will make the start of our next celebration on Sunday, December 26, 2021 much like the previous year.
But if things do improve, should you still play tabletop games with online friends?
Of course you should.
My hope is the connection you have learned to make with your online friends will not fade with the end of the pandemic. The loss has been unimaginable, but the lessons we’ve learned are amazing: Your distant friends are “next door” and available to connect with because of the technology available to us. It’s a privilege, no doubt, and we should practice it year round until we can celebrate again!
So Happy New Year and THANK YOU for celebrating the inaugural SpielMas festival in 2020.
And a special thanks to the many people for all their displays, pictures, tags, and games you played. Check them out using the #SpielMas hashtag on your favorite social channel.
